Two Harrison students received special acknowledgement for their performances at the festival, according to the Harrison school district.

Sakura Tateiwa, a senior, was named the festival's Outstanding Reed Soloist for her flute work on Ellington's "Bourbon Street Jingling Jollies," according to the district. Noah Mattisun, a junior, was named Outstanding Trumpet Soloist for his solo on "Basically Blues" and "The Chicken."

Started in 1995 by Jazz at Lincoln Center, the non-competitive, education-focused festival aims to allow high school jazz musicians of all skill levels the chance to perform the music of Duke Ellington.

This year's regional festival was held at Greenwich High School in mid-March.
