Harrison High School Ranks Among Nation's "Most Challenging"

HARRISON, N.Y. -- Harrison High School was recently named one of the most challenging the country in the Washington Post's Most Challenging High Schools 2013 listing.

Harrison was ranked No. 356 in the entire country out of more than 2,000 public and private schools. In the Northeast region, Harrison was listed No. 41 out of 264 schools. Out of the 129 New York schools that made the list, Harrison was ranked 29th.

“We are extremely proud of this accomplishment as it acknowledges our district’s sustained focus on excellence and equity, challenging all of our students to enroll in the most rigorous courses that we offer at Harrison High School. This recognition is a source of pride for the entire faculty and administration,” said Michael Greenfield, assistant superintendent for curriculum.

The rankings were based on the schools' index scores, which is the number of college-level tests given in 2012 divided by the number of graduates. Harrison High School had an index score of 3.389. The Washington Post also noted that 54.1 percent of students passed at least one college-level test during their high school career.
