HARRISON, N.Y. -- The Harrison High School Relay for Life event that took place in April was named the American Cancer Society’s Rookie Event of the Year for New York and New Jersey.
The Rookie of the Year award goes to the most successful new Relay for Life event in the division. The event was a carnival theme that included games, booths and other ways to raise money. Other events included a dinner with cancer survivors, a walk around the high school track and a luminaria candlelight ceremony.
The second annual Harrison Relay for Life is tentatively scheduled for May or June. Harrison’s original Relay for Life goal was $50,000, but the 39 teams collected over $84,000.
