RYE, N.Y. – Harrison Mayor Ron Belmont selected artwork by Ellie Grinell, a junior at Holy Child, as the official “Mayor’s Choice” winner for Youth Arts Month, an annual tradition in the Town of Harrison.

Youth Arts Month is a celebration of the arts by the public and private schools in Harrison, where student artwork is displayed in both the Municipal Building and the Harrison Public Library. Having completed its 32nd year, it has become a tradition for the mayor to select his or her favorite piece.

“This is the most successful of all the different activities the Harrison Council for the Arts does,” said Youth Arts Month Chair Doreen Grozinger. “People love to see it exhibited. It recognizes the kids and is nice for the art teachers who get some recognition as well.”

Holy Child Director of Arts Kim Calhoun said Grinell, a resident of Stamford, Conn., is a tremendous talent.

“Her work is inspired and thoughtful, and our school community is thrilled that she is being recognized for her incredible skill, hard work and creativity,” Calhoun said.

Grinell’s artwork will hang in the Municipal Building for the next couple of months.
