HARRISON, N.Y. -- Officials will announce additional state funding for the Harrison Central School District at a press conference Monday morning.

Harrison was denied $46,000 in state aid this January when it was late in submitting its plan for teacher evaluations. The district submitted its plan 19 minutes after the Jan. 17 deadline, after the state objected to the plan's evaluation system for the high school principal. The state disagreed that principals should be evaluated based on the number of students admitted to four-year colleges.

The state asked that Superintendent Lou Wool change th evaluation plan. Wool was unable to acquire a proper signature before midnight, and the state refused to accept the revised plan.

“It was the ludicrous idea that, because the state mandated we diminish the standards we were requiring for the high school principal, that they were also demanding a second signature at 11 at night,” Wool said at the time. Wool appealed the state's decision through the deputy commissioner of the Education Department.

Assemblyman David Buchwald will announce Monday that Harrison will receive money that was lost as a penalty for submitting the evaluation plan late. He will be joined by Wool, as well as members of the School Board and PTA Council, Harrison Mayor Ron Belmont, Harrison Association of Teachers President Karen Magee, and parents and citizens of the Harrison community. The announcement will take place at 10:30 a.m. at Harrison Town Hall.
