Meet Harrison Avenue School's New Teachers: Capalbo, Engel, Garbarino, Rose

HARRISON, N.Y. -- There are 30 new teachers are Harrison schools this year, including four at Harrison Avenue Elementary. Daily Voice will feature each as school opens this week. 

Jennifer Capalbo will teach Grade 4 at Harrison Avenue Elementary School. Capalbo was a leave replacement teacher at the Harrison Avenue Elementary School in 2013‐14 and will continue as a probationary teacher during the 2014‐15 school year. 

Capalbo was a second and third grade teacher at the Gun Hill Road School in New York City.

Nicole Engel will teach Grade 5 at Harrison Avenue Elementary School. Engel served was a leave replacement teacher at the Harrison Avenue Elementary School in 2013‐14 and will continue as a probationary teacher during the 2014‐15 school year.

Engel was an elementary teacher at a charter school and a special education teacher at a public school, both in New York City.

Thomas Garbarino will be an English as a second language teacher at Harrison Avenue Elementary School. Garbarino will be a part‐time ESL teacher during the 2014‐15 school year.

Garbarino worked for the past two years as an ESL instructor at the Literacy Volunteers of America School in Danbury, Conn.. He also completed his student teaching in ESL classrooms in Peekskill and Brewster. 



Meghan Rose will teach special education at Harrison Avenue Elementary School. For the past seven years, Rose has been a special education teacher for autistic students at special education elementary schools in New York City.

She has also completed specialized training in applied behavior analysis and the TEACCH methodologies in support of her work with autistic students.
