Meet Harrison Schools' New Teachers: Hegler, Kennedy, Scheels, Jenkins

HARRISON, N.Y. -- There are 30 new teachers are Harrison schools this year, including three at Parsons Elementary School. Daily Voice will feature each as school opened last week.

Amanda Hegler will serve as a long?term substitute teacher during the 2014?15 school year. She completed her student teaching at the Side by Side Charter School in Norwalk, Conn., and she has served as a literacy tutor for students in New Haven.  Jennifer Kennedy will serve as a fourth-grade teacher. Since 2012, she has taught second grade at the Family Life Academy Charter School in New York City. Ms. Kennedy also served as a reading specialist for the Dean Hope Center for Educational and Psychological Services and as a teaching assistant in New York City. Christie Scheels will teach second grade. For the past two years, Scheels has been a first-grade lead teacher at the Literacy and Arts Academy in New York City. She has also served as a tutor for students throughout the K?7 continuum. Evan Jenkins will serve as an ESL teacher at the Purchase Elementary School and the Parsons Elementary School. Jenkins completed his student teaching in ESL classrooms in the Dover Union Free School District and the Kingston City School District, and he has served as an ESL tutor for recent immigrants through the Sacred Heart Center for New Americans.
