The pep rally on Friday afternoon will feature music by DJ Andre and a dance battle, as well as performances by the school band and cheerleaders. It will conclude with the announcement of the Homecoming Court.
“Homecoming is the ultimate expression of community pride,” said Kenneth R. Hamilton, superintendent of schools. “Our students are excited about the event, and our staff is preparing for a successful celebration.”
On Saturday, the homecoming motorcade led by the Mount Vernon police and fire departments will take off from Mount Vernon High School at 1 p.m.
The motorcade will travel west down California Road to Columbus Avenue. From Columbus, the route will continue west toward Devonia Avenue and then toward Gramatan Avenue. From Gramatan, the motorcade will proceed south toward the rotary and cross onto Fourth Avenue. At this point, the procession will turn left on Thirrd Street toward Columbus Avenue, heading north toward California Road and finally arriving back at the Mount Vernon High School gymnasium parking lot. Following the motorcade, the Mount Vernon Knights will meet the Ossining Prides on the gridiron for a 2 p.m. kickoff. Halftime will feature a special tribute honoring 2007 Mount Vernon graduate Rodney Mack. Mack was a varsity starting quarterback for the Knights during the 2003 and 2004 seasons, who helped the team reach the 2004 Class AA championship game. After graduation, Mack became a member of the Mount Vernon Fire Department but not before a successful career in the arts, which included roles in three films. Mack passed away earlier this year after a battle with brain cancer. “Rodney was an inspiration to so many people in our community,” said Severin Cornelius, Mount Vernon football coach. “It was a devastating loss felt by our whole organization, and we wanted to honor his legacy this year and acknowledge his impact on our school and community.” For more information about homecoming festivities, contact Rick McCormack at 914-665-5235.
