Singleton will celebrate with colleagues and friends at a book launch, discussion and signing breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Pace University’s lower Manhattan campus at One Pace Plaza in Manhattan.  “White Beret – The Story of an Urban Nurse” is a fictional account of Rebecca Spence, RN. Set in a major New York City hospital, the book gives an insider’s look into life and death struggles on a pediatric unit during one crucial day for the young patients, their families and the nurses who put their lives on the line to care for them. Singleton’s childhood ambition was to be a writer. A summer experience as a teenager assisting nurses at a New York City medical center opened her eyes to the remarkable work and contributions of nurses. This “Nightingale moment,” as she calls it, made Singleton’s path to nursing clear and set the stage for a notable career in nursing, including professional writing.  “My first novel brings me full circle fulfilling my childhood ambition and telling the story of nurses,” said Singleton.

“I believe that nurses are the unsung heroes of health care. Every day through their work they make a difference in the lives of other human beings. I plan to open up a dialogue among nurses and to bring their stories to life.”

Singleton is the editor and contributor of numerous professional text books, and is a fellow in the National Academies of Practice, and the New York Academy of Medicine.  For more information or to purchase the book, visit Singleton’s website at www.UrbanNurseNYC.com.
