PURCHASE, N.Y. -- Organizations and congregations in New York have united to sponsor an Interfaith Memorial and Prayers for Peace and Healing service at Manhattanville College on Wednesday, July 30, for four teenage victims of the violence in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict .

The service is free and open to the public and will take place at 7 p.m. in the West Room of Reid Castle on the college campus.

Earlier this summer, three Israelis, Naftali Fraenkel, 16, Gillad Shaar, 16, Eyal Yifrach, 19, and a Palestinian, Mohammed Abu Khdeir, 16, were kidnapped and killed. The service will take place 30 days after the first of the funerals.

“With all the violence committed throughout the world today against young people on our city streets, the Nigerian girls and now the four young men murdered in the biblical land of Canaan; the violence that is done and escalating in the name of religion in Mosul, Iraq with the eradication of the ancient Christians and others religions and the destruction of churches and monasteries; violence by Buddhists extremists in Myanmar, we have to demonstrate that religion can be a solution to these complex world problems, Manhattanville College needs to be engaged and present," said the Rev. Wil Tyrrell, Catholic chaplain and director of the Duchesne Center for Religion and Social Justice at Manhattanville.

Part of the event will include music from the young men and women participating in the Summit Music Festival, which will serve as a sign of hope and future possibilities of life. State Assemblyman Steve Otis is also expected to attend.

The campus is at 2900 Purchase St, Purchase.

For more information contact Tyrrell at 914-323-7178, or Jill Friedman, associate regional director of AJC Westchester at 914-948-5585.
