HARRISON, N.Y. - Purchase College Assistant Professor of Psychology Paul Siegel was featured this month in a broadcast of "The Academic Minute" on WAMC's Northeast Public Radio.
The program inlcudes discussions from professors throughout the country from "the serious to the light-hearted, keeping listeners abreast of what's new and exciting in the academy with topics ranging from updates on groundbreaking scientific research to an explanation of how the board game Monopoly can help explain the economic recession," the college said in a statement.
In the broadcast, Siegel spoke of how facing your fears can help you overcome them, a topic he has become well-versed with since developing his research program. His translational research program focuses on phobias.
"In a twist on the standard treatment of phobias that involves prolonged exposure to feared stimuli (behavior therapy), his primary research program is testing the hypothesis that exposure without full conscious awareness can reduce fearful behavior," the college said of his work.
