The Professor Emeritus of Sociology at Purchase College will present "Collateral Damage: Families of the Incarcerated” for the 8th annual John Howard Lecture On Law and Society at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Oct. 15 at the Purchase College Natural Sciences Building, Room 1001. The lecture is made possible through a grant from Dr. Robert Timberger, according to a press release.

“?When a parent goes to prison — it is never alone — the children go with them,’” said Howard, quoting this observation by the Children’s Justice Alliance, in the press release. “This is particularly true in New York where 180,000 minors, about half in New York City, have a parent who is or has been incarcerated,” he points out.

The lecture will include a documentary from Purchase College Film School graduate Juan Galindo, according to the release. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion including Sister Teresa Fitzgerald, Executive Director of Hour Children, and Dominique Clifford, who was recently reunited with her daughter after imprisonment, according to the release.
