HARRISON, N.Y. -- Harrison residents will have a chance to vote Tuesday on the proposed budget for the 2013-14 school year, as well as for members of the Board of Education.
The proposed 2013-14 budget is $108,019,168, a 3.64 percent increase over last year's $104 million budget. If passed, the tax rate is expected to increase 3.98 percent and the tax levy will increase 3.47 percent. In order to keep the budget under the state's tax cap levy, the district was forced to cut $2.25 million from the budget in non-program spending. One or two teachers may be laid off if the budget passes.
There are two seats open on the Board of Education. Incumbent Abby Mendelsohn is seeking re-election, and newcomer Estroff is running unopposed for the other open seat.
Voting will take place between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. at your neighborhood elementary school.
