WWII Health Awareness Photos Showcased in Harrison

HARRISON, N.Y. - For the fourth year the Arthur M. Berger Gallery on the Manhattanville College campus will be hosting a collection of posters from the Merrill C. Berman collection. This year's theme is "Public Health Awareness" and all of the posters are related to the public health campaign of the World War II era.

The posters in this exhibit were hand picked by Professor Jim Frank, who works with the Merrill C. Berman Collection. Many of the posters focus on sexually transmitted diseases and show a link between fighting the disease and fighting the enemy.

"They are all from a specific time period so they are a snapshot of what was happening at that time," Professor Frank said.

The exhibit will run from Nov. 8 to Dec. 15, with an opening reception on Nov. 9 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The time of its run encompasses Human Rights Awareness Day (Nov. 19) and World AIDS Awareness Day (Dec. 1).

The Merrill C. Berman Collection is one of the most significant privately owned bodies of work in graphic design. The collection of graphic design and modernist art rivals the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
