Barletta Scores in Harrison loss to Rye

RYE, N.Y. -- Emma Brinkman and Annie VanWagenen each had a goal and an assist as top-seeded Rye defeated eighth-seeded Harrison, Wednesday, in a Section 1 Class B Field Hockey Championship quarterfinal. Rye will host the winner of No. 5 Irvington-No. 4 Nyack in a semifinal, Friday, 6 p.m. The Garnets raced out to a 2-0 lead in the first 7:30 of the game. Brinkman set up Katie Killip’s goal 3:09 into the game and Brinkman scored four minutes later, assisted by G.G. FitzGerald, who scored the last two goals of the game. Scarlett Sulliman closed out the scoring in the first half, assisted by Tori Virtue. Claire O’Callaghan opened the scoring for Rye with a goal 47 seconds into the second half. “The girls finished in front of the cage and did a good job of playing tough and aggressive,” Rye coach Emily Fitzgerald said. Nicole Barletta netted Harrison's goal with 5:02 remaining in the first half.
