The state Catholic Youth Organization win topped off the team's perfect 19-0 season.

St. Gregory’s playoff run to the title started at Iona Prep, where the young players defeated St. Patrick’s of Armonk to capture the Westchester/Putnam Championship. Their winning ways continued at Mount St. Michaels where they defeated a tough Sacred Heart team from Staten Island to win the Downstate Championship.

St. Gregory’s defeated St. Catherine of Rockland County by a score of 28-13 in the State title game. Their stifling defense held their opponent below 15 points for the 17th time this season and the offense continued to roll.

Head Coach Mike McCoy said the boys worked hard all season to get better and their passion for playing the game was contagious.

"They consistently brought high energy for every game and took a lot of pride in playing tough defense,'' McCoy said. "We have a great group of boys that formed a special bond which resulted in amazing team chemistry. The chemistry was evident on the court as they played true team basketball. It was always about the team and never about one individual."

The team roster included Christian D’Onofrio, Jack Evangelista, Raymond Fernandez, Ryan Ianniello, Tyler Isbrandtsen, Jack Mazzella, Matthew McCoy, Eric Pirrello and Evan Schwartz.

Coach McCoy was assisted by Anthony Mazzella and Raymond Fernandez.
