Harrison Football Faces Tough Test At John Jay

HARRISON, N.Y. – The Harrison High School football team will travel to John Jay Cross River at 7 p.m. Friday in what promises to be one of the premier games of the weekend.

The Huskies are coming off a season-opening win against White Plains in which the Tigers gave Harrison a fight and took a 14-10 lead into halftime. But the Huskies proved to be too strong and experienced and scored 20 straight points en route to a 30-20 win.

White Plains stayed in the game in the first half, but Harrison switched to the running game in the second half and overwhelmed the Tigers. That running game will likely be key for Harrison against John Jay on Friday.

Harrison wore out White Plains on the ground with the combination of running backs Robert Waldman and Jake Marino. Waldman rushed for two second-half touchdowns, and Marino punched one in, as well. Quarterback Vin Nicita also had a one-yard touchdown run.

John Jay dominated Tappan Zee in its 37-6 season-opening win on Friday but did give up 99 rushing yards and a touchdown to Joe Letizia. The Indians will need to rise to the occasion and shut down Harrison’s running game to earn the win.

The Indians have stellar senior quarterback Tyler Keech, who ran for an incredible 209 yards and three touchdowns on just seven carries on Friday. He also threw for 50 yards. John Jay will likely go as far as Keech takes them on Friday.
