Harrison Football Ready for Season-Opener Friday

HARRISON, N.Y. -- Going into preseason, Harrison had some vacancies in the starting lineup based on the vast number of graduates from the 2010 New York State Class A finalist.

A group of new varsity players stepped in and were anxious to show that they were ready to replenish the Huskies.

“We don’t have that many seniors, but they are a good class,” starting quarterback and junior Vinnie Nicita. “We had a lot of young guys coming in and they all stepped up. They have learned their roles and they are doing a good job at them.”

The new-look Huskies will take the field Friday, hosting Lakeland under the lights at 7 p.m. Harrison enters the game after making progress daily.

“I feel we have improved a lot from since that first practice,” Nicita said. “We’ve had a lot of good scrimmages and last week we had a great scrimmage at White Plains.”

Nicita is directing the offense once again this season. Senior Alex Beckett and junior Charlie Credindino anchor the offensive line, which will be opening holes for seniors Steve DiLeo and Will Hilliard. Senior Charlie Drago will in up at split end for the strong-armed Nicita.

“We feel good,” Nicita said. “I think everyone has had enough of double sessions and late-night practices. We just want to start playing, especially all of the guys who were on the team last year.”
