RYE, N.Y. Harrison High School coaches Candy Light and Mike Ciavarella spent one of their last few days of summer vacation on the Westchester Country Club golf course Wednesday as volunteer course marshals for the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship Pro-Am. Ciavarella, the school golf coach, and Light, who coaches volleyball, were enjoying the great golf atmosphere as golf greats including Fred Couples and Tom Watson mixed with amateur golfers before the Seniors event begin Thursday.
I thought it would be a great way of giving back, since we use Westchester Country Club facilities for some of our matches during the season, Ciavarella said. Were out here to watch for stray balls and keep everything going, but meeting and watching these golf greats play is a treat.
The Harrison faculty members joined more than 700 other volunteers who will work the tournament this week. The Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship is the fifth and final event of the 2011 Seniors Tour major event season and is being hosted at Westchester Country Club for the first time with such PGA greats as Watson, Ben Crenshaw, Couples and defending champion Mark OMeara competing.
The pros have been really nice, talking to us and telling jokes, Light said. Everyone is relaxed and having a great time. I have done this before, but it has been a fun day. And some of the amateurs are very good. We heard one had a hole-in-one on the first hole.
Individual daily and weekly tickets to the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship are now on sale. Those wishing to purchase tickets to the Championship can do so by logging on to the official tournament website, www.ceseniorplayers.com, or by calling the championship office at 914-481-5900.
