WEST NYACK, N.Y. -- Harrison 11-year-olds found themselves in an unfamiliar place Sunday after an 11-3 loss to West Nyack in a Section Four Little League Baseball first-round game.
This summer, Harrison is in the losers bracket for the first time. Last year, this current Harrison team advanced through the winners bracket to reach the Section Four title game. Harrison will play Middletown (District 19) in a losers bracket game at 7 p.m. Monday. The winning team continues playing while the losing team is eliminated. West Nyack meets Brewster (District 33) in the winners bracket final at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
Michael Arlotta crushed a home run in the second inning, giving Harrison a 1-0 lead it held through three innings.
In the second inning, West Nyack had the bases loaded with no outs, but starter Jack Woolf retired three in-a-row, including two by strike out. West Nyack threatened in the third, with runners on second and third with one out, and again Woolf struck out the last two batters to end the inning.
West Nyack broke open the game with a five-run fifth inning.
