Brucker graduated from Harrison High School in 2012 and currently attends Iona College. He will be pitching for the Chinooks as the team plays 33 regular season games in the Alaska Baseball League, followed by a tournament with the top four teams in the league. The league will also host a Home Run Derby and All Star game on July 21.
“The level of baseball is great for our guys to experience,” said Jon Groth, head coach of the Chinooks. “That level of play and the grind of a schedule with five to six games a week all help prepare young men for dealing with the challenges of collegiate play and professional baseball.”
The Chinooks are owned by Athletes in Action, which is a ministry for Cru, formerly known as Campus Crusade for Christ. Athletes in Action uses sports as a platform for players to help people answer questions about faith. In addition to playing, team members will be sharing their gospel with other teams in the league and ministering to the Anchorage where the games are held.
“We've had great times of discipleship, as part of our daily routine is to meet for about 90 minutes of Bible study and discussion," Groth said. "We've also had opportunities to take that ministry to others as we've helped put on a church picnic, worked at a food bank, and will be involved in numerous baseball clinics throughout the summer."
