Harrison Prepares For Section 4 Baseball Championships

WEST NYACK, N.Y. – Frankie Nannariello and his Harrison teammates enter the Section 4 Little League Baseball 11-year-old Championships on a roll.

The current team, including two new additions this summer, went undefeated in winning the District 20 title for a second consecutive year. Last year, Harrison won the minors title.

Harrison has a bye in the first round and will face the Brewster (District 33)-West Nyack (District 18) winner at 7 p.m. Sunday at Germonds Park in West Nyack. The six-team, double-elimination tournament begins Saturday and goes through Thursday. The championship game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday. If a second game is needed, it will be played at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Harrison team is composed of Joe DiDonato, Michael Arlotta, Christian Pizzutello, Joe Tiburzi, Derek Ferraro, Jack Woolf, Peter Hoffman, Noa Oki, Billy O’Meara, Jace Struzzi, Chris Scazzero and Nannariello.

Harrison is hoping to have a better ending this year. Last year, Harrison was three outs away from the Section 4 title when Pearl River rallied in the sixth inning to steal the victory.

“Last year’s loss in the final was a horrible loss for our team, and of course this still bothers us,” said Nannariello, 11, a sixth-grader-to-be at Louis M. Klein Middle School.

Returning to the Section 4 Championships is a plus for Harrison, because the players know what to expect.

“Last year gave us a preview of all the great teams we are going to play,” Nannariello said. “We need to play harder and smarter if we want to advance to states.

“Winning the District 20 tournament was great, and it gives us more confidence to hopefully win sections so we can forget about the bad loss in last year’s final.”
