ARDSLEY, N.Y. — Lauren Madonna's two-run double highlighted the pivotal fourth inning as Harrison beat Sherman Park, 5-1 in a winner's bracket game Tuesday in the District 20 Little League Softball Majors Championship at McDowell Field.
Harrison will play Eastchester in the winner's bracket final at 4 p.m. Saturday at Sherman Park. The winner advances to the championship Wednesday, June 27, at Ardsley, and will await the team that emerges from the loser's bracket.
"This was definitely a team effort, and we only had nine players," Harrison coach Kristen Ciafone said. "Sydney [Braiotta] pitched amazing, and our defense was excellent."
Sydney Braiotta, who tossed a no-hitter in the opener against Hastings, finished with a two-hitter and nine strikeouts. She now has 17 strikeouts in her two starts, totaling 10 innings.
The score was even at 1-1 through three innings when Harrison scored three runs in the fourth. Madonna's two-run double scored Kelsey Ciafone and Brianna Cirillo. Gina Nuvolino brought home the third run with a single, scoring Arianna Evangelista. Evangelista scored again later in the game on a Braiotta single.
Danielle Mulvey singled in Allison Powers for Sherman Park in the second inning.
Sherman Park plays Ardsley in a loser's bracket game at 5:45 p.m. Thursday at Gedney Field in White Plains. The loser of this game will have its second loss and will be eliminated.
