Harrison Softball Rolls In Section 4 Opener

NANUET, N.Y. -- Harrison went undefeated in winning the District 20 Little League Softball Minot’s Championship and Sunday it continued its perfect summer.

Juliette Grasso and Tamara Day had three hits apiece as Harrison ran away to a 21-7 victory versus Warwick (District 19) in a first-round game of the Section 4 Little League Softball Championship at Heroes Field.

Harrison moves into the winner’s bracket and will face Wappingers (District 17) at 6 p.m. Monday. The winner plays in the winner’s bracket final at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Grasso had a pair of RBI singles and a two-run double. Day doubled in a run and then tripled to the center-field fence, driving in two more. She added a fourth RBI on a ground out.

“We were all excited for this game,” said Grasso, 10, a fifth-grader-to-be at Harrison Avenue School.

Harrison led, 6-3 after two innings before erupting for 13 runs in the third inning. Kristy Iannachinno and Mia Harris produced hits to drive in a run apiece. Grasso doubled in two runs in the inning and Day roped her two-run triple.

“In the third inning, we were really focusing well,” Grasso said. “Their pitcher was throwing the pitches that we wanted to hit.”

Grasso, who drove in Harrison’s winning runs with a two-out single in the District 20 championship game, kept that hot steak going with hits in her first three at-bats.

“I was back in the box because she was throwing hard,” Grasso said. “I was waiting for my pitch and when I got it, I put a good swing on it.”

Lila Mogavero, who had two hits including a triple, was on base all five times and scored five runs. Lindsay McConway had two hits and two RBI, and Mia Harris singled twice, scored two runs and drove in a run.

Day and McConway each pitched two innings, allowing three hits, Mogavero had an excellent game at second base with three assists and three put outs.
