Harrison to Play Opener in District 20 Baseball

The final destination is Williamsport, Pennsylvania, the ultimate goal for every 12-year-old baseball player for that is the site of the Little League World Series. The road to Williamsport begins Wednesday for 11 teams in the District 20 majors division. The teams competing for the District 20 title are Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Eastchester, Elmsford, Harrison, Kensico, Port Chester, Rye, Scarsdale, Sherman Park and White Plains. The majors championship runs through July 12. The final is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. at Brentwood Park in Harrison. If a second game is necessary, the time, date and site is yet to be determined. The District 20 champion will then move on to sectional play. In order for the eventual District 20 champion to qualify for Williamsport, the team would have to win the sectional, state and Mid-Atlantic Regional titles.

Six teams open Wednesday with Elmsford playing Rye,at  5:45 p.m., at Disbrow Park, Harrison facing White Plains, at 7 p.m., at Gedney Field and Sherman Park hostings Dobbs Ferry, at 7 p.m. at Volunteer Field. Eastchester, Port Chester and Scarsdale all received byes and will play Saturday as will Kensico at Ardsley, at 11 a.m. The District 20 9-10-year-old baseball championships also begin Wednesday with 11 teams vying for the title. The teams are Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Eastchester, Elmsford, Harrison, Kensico, Port Chester, Rye, Scarsdale, Sherman Park and White Plains. Three opening-round games all begin at 5:45 p.m. with Port Chester meeting White Plains, at Pat Henry Field, Harrison hosting Rye at Brentwood Park, and Scarsdale playing Elmsford at Piccoli Field. Eastchester will play Sherman Park, at 5:45 p.m., Saturday. Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry and Kensico drew first-round byes and await the winners of Wednesday’s games. These three teams will play Saturday.
