HARRISON, N.Y. – Members of the Harrison High School varsity cheerleading squad realized they had only one chance to impress the judges Sunday at the Northeast Cheerleading Regionals.

“We have a two-minute and 30-second routine,” said senior and captain Ali Lepino.  “After we finished, we were a little nervous to see what we and the other teams brought to the floor.  We were keeping a positive attitude, because no matter what the outcome, we knew we did everything we could on the mat.”

Harrison finished in fourth place, good enough to earn its second consecutive trip to Nationals.

The team is composed of Issy Caird, Monica Montes, Sage Scoli, Katie Mayne, Nicole Ferrara, Ashley Milone, Caroline Gaeta, Kylie Barnes, Amanda Mirakaj, Nicole Golino, Victoria Nuvoloni, Sabrina Amicucci, Breanna Sgro, Katie Fanelli, Shannon Toohey, Miranda and Sam Chiarella, Jordan Valentzas, Nicole Murphy, Amanda Mancini, Alex Deltufo, Andrea Catalano, Jessica Tannenbaum and Lepino.

Lepino said the cheerleaders were even more prepared this year because they knew what to expect.

“We were definitely psyched, because we knew everything,” Lepino said. “We had been working so hard, because it all came down to this competition, and we had to do everything we could to make our dream become reality.”

The team will travel to Orlando, Fla., for the competition Feb. 10-12.

“Knowing we are going to Nationals is an amazing feeling,” Lepino said. “We get to go to Florida and represent our school and our community and show everyone what we can do.”
