ARDSLEY, N.Y. -- Following a rough start to the four-team scrimmage Friday, Harrison found its groove against Mahopac.
Harrison closed by sweeping Mahopac and defeating host Ardsley. The Huskies, the defending Section 1 Class B champions, finished with a 3-4 record. It was Harrisons first scrimmage of the preseason.
We had some players who were out with injuries so we had to get used to playing with each other on the court, senior three-year starter Lily Stokoe said.
Harrison opened with two games apiece against Pelham and Ardsley, both sectional semifinalists last year. The Huskies found themselves trailing, 23-18 to Mahopac in the first game, before a late rally gave them the game.
That was the turning point, said Stokoe, who was a force at the net. When we realized we were going to lose we found that internal drive, together, and we kept it going.
Once Harrison went on a run, the chatter between teammates became more pronounced.
There was a lot of miscommunication early," she said. "Then, we definitely had a lot more communication in that we were letting each other know who had the ball, and we were hustling after every ball.
The Huskies punctuated the day with a double-digit win over Ardsley.
