Harrison, White Plains Football Play First Meeting

HARRISON, N.Y. -- White Plains and Harrison will make history at 2 p.m. Saturday when the teams meet for the first time on the football field.

The schools, separated by less than 6 miles, have never met before because of their classification sizes. White Plains always has been a Class AA school while Harrison has fluctuated between a Class A and Class B school.

While the two schools still aren't in the same class, the teams decided to schedule the clash, in part because of Harison's improved program.

Both teams enter the game following disappointing conclusions to their 2011 seasons. Harrison was eliminated in the first round of the Section 1 Class A Football Championships and White Plains lost to Archbishop Stepinac in its annual Thanksgiving Day game.

“I feel like we’ve been waiting for the opener since we lost to Poughkeepsie last year,” Harrison quarterback Vinnie Nicita said. “We are ready to start off an exciting season. We feel lucky to be a part of this first-ever game with White Plains and one that could lead to future match-ups between the two schools. We want to show what we can do against a much bigger school and prove ourselves early on.”
