Harrison Youth Gain Experience, Win Over Rye Neck

HARRISON, N.Y. – Harrison girls’ basketball coach Louis Kail played several young players in Wednesday’s game against Rye Neck.

And he liked what he saw.

“We’re getting contributions from everyone,” Kail said. “It goes a long way.”

Harrison dominated Rye Neck, 47-27, on Wednesday night. Paige Brabant scored eight points for the Huskies. Gabby Morris added seven and Shawn Caparelli added six.

The youth on the floor for the Huskies was abundant. Kail played an eighth grader, a ninth grader and three sophomores in the game and was proud of their performances.

“They really stepped up today,” Kail said. “They grew up.”

Harrison led Rye Neck, 27-13, at the half and kept rolling throughout the second half. The team continually forced turnovers and did not get flustered when it failed to capitalize on opportunities.

Rye Neck coach Cathy Toolan said she was pleased that her defense was able to stop Harrison when it set up its offense, but did not like the turnovers her team committed.

“We’re kind of up and down,” Toolan said. “There’s games and quarters where we lose our focus.”

Marisa Bella led the Panthers with 10 points and Kirstin Tamucci added seven points.

The Huskies will travel to Croton-Harmon High School on Thursday for one last game before the Christmas break. Harrison played its first four games of the season in four days, but Kail hopes his team will be able to handle it.

“That is the challenge, playing back-to-back games,” Kail said. “We hope we can put two together and roll into the Christmas break.”
