Harrison's Marino Continues Family Football Tradition

HARRISON, N.Y. – When it comes to Harrison football, the Marino name is well known for tenacity and excellent play.

Neil Marino, a former Harrison varsity coach, was a standout two-way player during his Husky days and a member of the 1981 undefeated team. His nephew, Dean Marino, was a major factor in leading Harrison to the 1998 New York State Class B championship game.

Now Jake Marino, Neil’s son and Dean’s cousin, is keeping the family tradition going.

The junior running back had only nine carries, but Marino made the most of them, running for a career-high 124 yards and a touchdown in Harrison’s 30-20 season-opening win over White Plains.

“It felt great that Coach Troilo had the confidence in me and gave me the opportunity to get the job done,” said Marino, who is also an outstanding lacrosse player.

The Huskies went to a ground attack in the second half, resulting in Marino and his backfield mates eating up the yardage.

“The coaches made some adjustments at halftime that allowed us to move the ball with more success,” Marino said. “As the game went on, our offensive line got an even better push and the holes started opening up.”

Marino and his teammates received a confidence boost with their victory over the Class AA school. It was also the first football meeting between the two schools.

“It felt really good to have that type of game against a double A school like White Plains that has that type of size, speed and athletic ability,” Marino said.
