Rivera, the son of famous Yankees pitcher Mariano Rivera, was initially drafted by the Yankees last season as a sophomore, but decided to stay in college to pitch for another season at Iona, reported the Times.
Rivera's decision has left him with an Iona-record of 113 strikeouts and six complete games this season, as well as being chosen as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's pitcher of the year, according to the Times.
Though the Yankees drafted him last year in the 29th round, he not only feels he could do better, but he wants to graduate from college and become the first Rivera to receive a college degree, reported the Times.
