Kyle Lefkowitz scored eight of her 10 points in the fourth quarter as Harrison overcame John F, Kennedy Catholic (Somers), 47-44 in the Harrison Basketball Tournament girls’ title game Saturday.
Lefkowitz, who was named to the all-tournament team with Paige Brabant, was also named the most valuable player. Lefkowitz helped Harrison outscore Kennedy, 13-6 in the final quarter. In Harrison’s victory over Saunders Trades and Technical High School (Yonkers), the Huskies outscored the Blue Devils, 13-8 in the fourth quarter.
“We felt that if we came into the fourth quarter with that intensity and put it all on the line, we could pull it out,” Lefkowitz said. “We still had that high energy from Thursday.”
After a Brabant 3-pointer to open the fourth quarter, Lefkowitz scored Harrison’s next eight points. Her first hoop came on a baseline feed from Brabant. Gia Mancini assisted on Lefkowitz’s next basket. The freshman guard drove baseline, drew the JFK defender and dished a pass to Lefkowitz for the hoop.
“I was working hard, trying to get the box out on defense so I felt if I was doing the job on defense, it would carry over to offense,” Lekowitz said. “I just had to remember to square up when I was shooting.” Gabby Morris, Jessica Scazzero and Brabant each had seven points and Alexandra Franco added six.
“It feels really amazing,” said Lefkowitz of the win. “We are all working together and we all came together today for this win.”
Following her MVP performance, Lefkowitz sang the national anthem prior to the boys’ final. Harrison would go on to beat Edgemont High School, 43-37 to make it a Husky sweep.
