Little Leagues and other baseball clubs throughout Westchester have recently celebrated the opening of their seasons, a sign that spring is here.

Keri Dimicelli, who coaches baseball in Ossining, said the baseball leagues are an asset to the community.

"They bring together some amazing volunteers of dads, moms and even grandparents as coaches and helpers for the league," Dimicelli said.

Ossining is one of many Westchester communities that host a parade through town on opening day to welcome the new baseball season

"Opening day is such a great day with all the kids in fresh clean uniforms, moms and dads clutching coffee cups and the parade to vets park with team made banners," Dimicelli said. "It's so great to have the community so excited for the start of the baseball season."

Lenny Dymond, a parent of an Ossining Little Leaguer, said baseball still has a big following.

"The kids form a bond with their peers/teammates working together as a team and there is community support from the many families who come to cheer them on,"  Dymond said.

The Yorktown Athletic Club began its baseball season Saturday with its annual spring kickoff picnic at the Firehouse Field.

Opening day "means the official opening of the spring season and it is meant to thank all of the hard working volunteers for their time and efforts," Bob Kohl of the Yorktown Athletic Club said. "It is also meant to be a time for all the kids to be kids and relax enjoy time with their friends and family."

Harrison will be hosting its Little League Parade on April 24 at 6:30 p.m. from Louis M Klein Middle School down Route 127 to the Harrison Avenue School.

In New Rochelle, opening day for lower minors is Saturday, April 25 at 1:30 p.m. at Tocci Field and upper minors is Wednesday, April 22 at 5:45 p.m. at Lincoln Field. Majors kicks off at 5:45 p.m. at Tocci Field.
