PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville men’s golf team became the Division III Academic National Champion, the highest such academic honor in the country.

The Golf Coaches Association of America announced the honor and Farmers Insurance presented it to Manhattanville.

The Valiants earned GCAA All-Academic Team honors in the 2010-11 season and built upon that success in 2011-12. The team had a cumulative grade point average of 3.498 for the school year and barely missed earning President’s Special Recognition honors, which requires a GPA of 3.50.

Only 13 teams throughout the entirety of the NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA earned President’s Special Recognition.

Manhattanville also earned GCAA All-Academic Team honors for the second straight year. The Valiants were one of only nine teams in Division III to earn the honor and qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships in the spring.

“I am very proud to be associated with this group of players who have had such success not only on the course, but also in the classroom and in our community,” said head coach Nikhil Kumar.
