Nationally Ranked Manhattanville Soccer Rolls

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) released its Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional Rankings Tuesday with the Manhattanville men’s soccer team ranked at No. 7.

Proving its ranking Wednesday, the Valiants ran their record to a perfect 5-0 with a 2-0 victory over NYU-Poly on at Field. Manhattanville won both of its games last week, a 2-1 victory in overtime against Vassar and a 3-1 victory against Berkeley College of New York on Saturday to earn the ranking. Messiah College, Swarthmore College and Muhlenberg were the top three ranked teams.

The Valiants dominated NYU throughout the first half, scoring at 24:23 with junior Eros Olazabal (Milton, Ontario) taking a pass from freshman Yani Quinteros (Shirley, N.Y.) to score his Division III-leading ninth goal of the season.

Manhattanville was in shut down mode defensively in the first half, allowing only one shot while sending 13 at the NYU goal. Senior Keston George (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago) scored for his fifth goal of the year at 73:40 off passes from Carmel High graduate sophomore Kyle Cassidy and Quinteros.

Three teams in the rankings’ Top 10 are still on the upcoming schedule for the Valiants, including No. 2 Swarthmore (Oct. 5) with a 3-0 record, The United States Merchant Marine Academy (Sept. 28) and fellow Freedom Conference member Misericordia (Oct. 8). The undefeated Valiants are back in action on Saturday, when they look to tie the best start to a season in program history against the defending Empire 8 Conference Champion Stevens Ducks.

The game begins at 7 p.m. at Field, with live video coverage starting at 6:55 p.m. on GoValiants.TV.
