Purchase Baseball Coach Heading To New Mexico

HARRISON, N.Y. – SUNY Purchase assistant baseball coach Mike Nassisi will be coaching in New Mexico’s Las Cruces Vaqueros of the Pecos League during the off-season this year.

Nassisi joined Purchase last season as an assistant to head coach Bill Guerrero.  The Vaqueros recently hit the midway point of their season at 21-14, a game behind the Roswell Invaders (23-14) for first place in the league.

Nassisi has helped lead the Vaqueros to the best start in team history.

“This is the best offensive team I've ever been part of throughout my playing and coaching career,” said Nassisi, who both plays and coaches for Las Cruces.

The Vaqueros set records this season for runs in a single game with 26 home runs in a season by a single player with 14 from Logan Lotti of Chico, Ca. Las Cruces also led the league at one point in batting average, home runs, RBI, runs scored and on base percentage.

The Pecos League contains six teams (four from New Mexico, one from Colorado and one from Texas) and is an independently run professional American baseball league. The top four teams in the league make the playoffs.
