Schill Leads Manhattanville Women's Hockey to Win

RYE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville women’s hockey team was not pleased with itself Saturday following a scoreless tie with Castleton State.

“It was more of an individual effort,” forward Lynsey Shill said. “Everyone was pretty upset. Everyone then knew what needed to be done today.”

Schill and her teammates made the adjustment and it resulted in a 3-1 win over visiting New England College on Saturday at Playland Ice Casino.

Schill scored Manhattanville’s first goal and assisted the other two. Alyssa Taylor had two assists and Jackie Solomito added an empty-net goal and also had an assist.

The Lady Valiants are 4-0-1 in their last five games and 11-5-3 on the season. Manhattanville is on the road at Salve Regina, Friday, and Holy Cross, Saturday.

“We played more as a team and individually, I am pleased with our effort,” said Schill, who scored her eighth goal of the season. “We were getting more pucks to the net and we had people crashing the net.”

Schill opened the scoring at 17:41 of the first period with a power-play goal, assisted by Taylor and Solomito. Katie Little doubled the lead to 2-0, 7:14 into the second period, also on the power play, with Taylor and Schill getting the assists.

Manhattanville killed four of five power-play opportunities for New England College. Jamie Tabb scored the visitors’ goal at 7:57 of the second period.

New England College had a power play with 8:31 remaining in the game, but only one shot made it through to goalie Emy Cote. New England College finished with four shots in the third period and 21 overall, while Manhattanville put 37 on net.
