HARRISON, N.Y. – The Harrison varsity baseball team had a spring season to remember as the Huskies won the Section 1 Class A baseball championship in June.
The Huskies’ victory is among the top sports stories of 2012 in Harrison .
Harrison defeated Byram Hills in the Section1 Class A final in walk-off fashion. It was Harrison’s first sectional title since the Huskies won the second of two Class B championships in 1992.
The varsity was not the only baseball team to experience success. The Harrison Little League 11-year-old baseball team won the District 20 championship in July. It was the second consecutive title for the team, which was the 2011 District 20 Minor League champion. Harrison was led by Frankie Nannariello, Michael Arlotta and Jack Wolf, going undefeated to win the title.
The Harrison varsity football team broke through in October, snapping a nine-game losing streak against arch rival Rye with a 21-0 victory. Harrison’s last win versus Rye came in 2002.
Junior running back Mike Amicucci scored two touchdowns as the Huskies closed out the regular season with a 7-0 record.
The Harrison varsity field hockey team had the best year in the program’s history. The Huskies, led by seniors Michelle Loguidice and Kaitlyn Gotte, finished with a 10-4-2 record, earned a No. 5 seed in the Section 1 Class B Field Hockey Championships and advanced to the sectional quarterfinals.
