Two Harrison Tennis Players To Be Honored At US Open

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – The United States Tennis Association Eastern will honor five Westchester County junior tennis players at the first day of the US Open in Flushing Meadow on Monday.

The five players will receive their awards at the Junior Tennis Awards Gala at 10:30 a.m. Monday. USTA Eastern will honor 27 players in total.

Fourteen-year-old Sam Turchetta of Pound Ridge, 16-year-old Shawn Hadavi of Dobbs Ferry, 16-year-old Jacqueline Urbinati of Harrison, 18-year-old Louisa Chirico of Harrison and 18-year-old Jamie Loeb of Ossining will each be honored at the event.

USTA Eastern puts on the gala to honor junior tennis players who finished the best in their section tournaments in the first half of the year.

Loeb received a wild card into the main draw of the 2012 Jr. US Open. She also won her first pro tournament of the year on July 1 at the Sargent & Collins LLP Women’s $10,000 Championships. Loeb won the singles and doubles titles at that event.

Chirico received a wild card to the Jr. US Open qualifying tournament and, like Loeb, won her first pro tournament of the year with a victory in singles at the $10,000 Palmetto Pro Open on May 27.

USTA Eastern will also honor winners of the USTA NJTL Arthur Ashe Essay Contest on Monday. Jonathan Agyeno of Yonkers and Mindy Hugo of Mount Vernon will receive awards in the Boys 13-14 and Girls 15-16 divisions, respectively.

This year’s topic was “If Arthur Ashe were alive today, what do you think would give him hope?”
