Unbeaten Archbishop Stepinac Football Rolling, But Stiff Test Awaits

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Archbishop Stepinac’s football team remains No. 2 in the latest state rankings from MaxPreps, but the Crusaders face one of their stiffest tests this season on Friday, Oct. 17.

Stepinac (6-0) travels to Melville on Friday to play St. Anthony’s (4-2), which is ranked 13th by MaxPreps. The Friars are coming off a 40-30 loss to Iona Prep on Sunday.

The Crusaders’ final two regular season games are against Chaminade (2-4) and Monsignor Farrell (4-2), which is ranked 69th in the state by MaxPreps.

And so far, there has been no stopping the Crusaders. Stepinac crushed Holy Trinity of Hicksville, 54-6. The Crusaders led 35-0 at halftime. Stepinac has outscored opponents 264-49 and is ranked No. 5 in the state with an average of 43.3 points per game.

Quarterback Brandon Coleman threw for 131 yards and one touchdown and rushed for a team-high 68 yards and two scores. His 20-yard touchdown pass to Jesse Brown opened the scoring, and Coleman scored on a 28-yard run later in the first quarter.

Coleman, Gavin Heslop (48 yards) and Tyquell Fields (12 yards) added touchdown runs in the second quarter. Malcolm Major, Ty Ennis and Malik Crawford added second half scores.
