Warnock Named Manhattanville Mens' Lacrosse Coach

PURCHASE, N.Y. -- Kevin Warnock was on the final day of his honeymoon when he received a call he was hoping for. Warnock was told he would be the next men’s lacrosse coach at Manhattanville College. The job offer, and acceptance, concluded a joyous two-week period for Warnock.

The 28-year-old, a former midfielder at Springfield College, interviewed for the job two days before his wedding.

“This is a great area,” Warnock said. “Westchester is a hotbed for lacrosse and you have Long Island and Fairfield County, Conn., also. You want to recruit a good core group of local guys. That is a big draw for me. And you can recruit nationally being so close to New York City. Who would not want to be this close to the city, especially with the internship possibilities?”

Warnock is the seventh coach in the program’s 24-year history. He comes to Manhattanville with college-coaching experience. He began his coaching career, after graduating from Springfield in 2005, at Western New England University.

After two years at Western New England, Warnock went to St. Leo‘s in Florida for one year, and spent the past two years at Bates, which plays in the New England Small College Athletic Conference.

The Valiants went 3-13 last year, but return 17 lettermen. Leading scorers Mike Strauss and Mahopac’s Joe Daly headline this group. Once Warnock was appointed, he began contacting the players and liked what he heard and saw.

“They are young players who are passionate about and have pride in their program,” Warnock said. “When I looked into their eyes, I could see they wanted to get going and that got me amped up.”
