RYE, NY -- Rye Golf Clubs depth proved to be the difference as it opened its summer-swim season with a victory over visiting Westchester Country Club, 252-216, Thursday.
Rye Golf Club had only one triple winner -- Ryan Whittington -- and two double-winners -- Peter Whittington and Annabelle Pollack -- but it was enough to get the win.
Our depth played to our advantage, Rye Golf Club coach Cathleen Ferguson said. They have a very good team. We were in there getting the seconds and third places and that added up. I am quite happy with the performance of the kids.
Ferguson pointed out that Wednesday, Westchester Country Club won its invitational and Rye Golf Club finished fourth. Ryan Whittington won the 10-and-under boys 50-meter backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Younger brother Peter was the 8-and-under boys winner in the 25-backstroke and breaststroke.
Pollack won the 10-and-under girls diving, scoring 91.2 points, and the 17-and-under girls diving with 151.65 points.
Westchester Country Club boasted a pair of triple winners and double winners. The triple winners were K. Speres in the 12-and-under boys 50-freestyle, breaststroke and butterfly, and Tim Peeley, the 17-and-under boys winner in the 100-butterfly, backstroke and freestyle. Nicole Vena won the 50-backstroke and freestyle in the girls 12-and-under division Kelly Delane was the 14-and-under girls winner in the 100-freestyle and backstroke.
