Westchester County Teams Advance In Football Playoffs

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Archbishop Stepinac and Iona Prep advanced to the semifinals of the Catholic High School Football League playoffs on Sunday while Rye and Tuckahoe advanced to the New York regionals during a busy football weekend.

Stepinac (10-0) remains ranked No. 2 in the state by MaxPreps, while Iona Prep (7-2) is ranked 14th and Rye (9-1) climbed 18 spots to 33rd. Tuckahoe is ranked 245th in the state.

Stepinac defeated Cardinal Hayes, 36-22, in a quarterfinal game. Malcolm Major ran for 155 yards and a touchdown for the Crusaders, who were tied at 22-22 in the third  quarter before pulling away.

Tyquan Ennis’ 9-yard run put Stepinac ahead to stay. Quarterback Brandon Coleman completed 14-of-22 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns. T.J. Morrison caught both touchdown receptions. Stepinac will play St. Peter’s in the semifinals on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Stepinac.

Iona Prep defeated Holy Trinity, 41-6. Quarterback Robert Madison threw for 292 yards and five touchdowns for the Gaels, who will meet St. Anthony’s in the semifinals. Prep beat St. Anthony’s, 40-30, on Oct. 12.

Rye (9-1) will play Section 9 champion Cornwall Central (10-0) in the Class A Regional on Saturday at noon at Mahopac High School. The Garnets beat Yorktown, 35-14, in the Section 1 title game. Quarterback Andrew Livingston threw for 257 yards and three touchdowns for Rye, while receiver Tim DeGraw had four receptions, three for touchdowns, and 183 yards. Livingston also set the Section 1 record for career passing yards. Rye has won three Class B titles under coach Dion Garr, the last coming in 2008.

Tuckahoe crushed Haldane, 40-0, behind the running of Antony Castracucco and Enoch Penneylaryea. Castracucco rushed for 127 yards and two touchdowns, while Penneylaryea had 227 yards and four touchdowns. Tuckahoe will meet Chester (8-2) on Friday at 3 p.m. at Dietz Stadium in Kingston in a Class D regional playoff game. Chester defeated Tuckahoe, 26-21, in last year’s regional contest on its way to the state final.

Woodlands will also play in the Class C Regional on Saturday against Millbrook. Woodlands (4-4) advanced with a 28-20 win over Rye Neck on Nov. 1. The Falcons play on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Mahopac High School.
