Harrison Fans Get Word Of Derek Jeter's Retirement Plans Via Facebook

Jeter's decision to retire follows last year's retirement of Purchase resident Mariano Rivera, who had a farewell tour of baseball when he announced his retirement before the 3013 season.

Jeter made the announcement on Facebook, thanking fans in a 15-paragraph statement.

"The 2014 season will be my last year playing professional baseball," the Yankees captain said. "I will remember it all: the cheers, the boos, every win, all the plane trips, the bus rides, the clubhouses, the walks through the tunnel and every drive to and from the Bronx."

Unless the Yankees male the postseason playoffs, Jeter's final game will come on Sept. 28 at Fenway Park. His final game at Yankee Stadium will be Sept. 25, against the Baltimore Orioles.

However, the Yankees say they have not yet been informed, according to a report by SNY-TV.
