Winner! Montvale Powerball Player Scores Big Bucks It was a lucrative Saturday for a Powerball player in Bergen County. A ticket sold in Montvale matched four numbers and the red Powerball in the drawing held on Saturday, April 6, winning $150,000. The ticket was sold at an Exxon in Montvale. Armed Robber Busted In Newark After April Fools Pursuit: Police A 27-year-old Newark man was arrested and charged with attempting to rob two men at gunpoint in Bloomfield on Monday, April 1, police said. At 11:30 a.m., two men were picked up for work near the 100 block of Floyd Avenue by Alameen Mohammed in a silver Mercedes Benz, Bloomfield police said. Mohammed brandished a handgun and demanded money from the men, police said. The men had no money and exited the vehicle before calling 911, police said. Two Juveniles Arrested For Vehicle Theft: Nutley PD Two juveniles have been apprehended after a car was stolen in Nutley last month, police said. On Wednesday, March 6 at 4:21 a.m., the two juveniles entered a home on Alexander Avenue through a rear door and stole the keys to a Land Rover parked in the driveway, Police Director Alphonse Petracco and Chief Thomas Strumolo said. The vehicle was recovered in East Orange a day later, police said. The juveniles have been charged with conspiracy to commit burglary and motor vehicle theft, police said.

Two Men Stole Checks From Mailboxes: Fairfield PD Two men were arrested and charged with stealing checks from people's mailboxes in Fairfield on Thursday, April 4, police said. At 9:22 a.m. a resident on Glenroy Road South witnessed a vehicle pull up to their mailbox and remove an envelope containing a check meant to be picked up by the mailman, Fairfield police said. Person Fatally Struck By Vehicle Moments After Hitting Pedestrian: North Plainfield PD A 57-year old Plainfield man was fatally struck by a car as he was checking on a pedestrian he hit with his vehicle near Costco in North Plainfield on Thursday, April 4, authorities said. Man Who Sexually Assaulted Young Girl At Large: Somerset County Prosecutor A 38-year-old Somerset resident is at large after he sexually assaulted a girl for four years authorities said. From 2018 through 2022, Cipriano Diaz sexually assaulted a girl under the age of 13, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office said. The assaults occurred in Franklin Township, authorities said. A warrant has been issued for Diaz's arrest, authorities said. Diaz is 6'3" and weighs 210 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes and a face scar on his left cheek. Morris County Closes Offices After Gas Leak Caused By Earthquake Morris County government offices in Morristown are closed for the remainder of Friday, April 5 following the 4.8 earthquake that shook up New Jersey this morning. The decision to close was made as a result of a gas leak in the Administration/Hall of Records building at 10 Court St., which forced an evacuation, Morris County Government said on Facebook. Orange Man Seriously Injured After Truck Crashes Into Car On Route 78: Njsp A 27-year-old Orange man was seriously injured after a vehicle was struck by a tractor-trailer on Route 78 on the morning of Friday, April 5, authorities said. At 5:13 a.m. on Route 78 west in Newark, a Chevrolet passenger vehicle was stopped in the right lane due to a previous crash when it was truck by a Freightliner truck, Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said. The passenger of the Chevrolet was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries, Lebron said. The crash remains under investigation, Lebron said.

Hunterdon County Police Dog Mourned Agar, a police dog in Hunterdon County, has died, the Readington Township Police Department announced on Friday, April 5. Readington Township Police Department Agar, along with his handler Sgt. Ground Stop Issued For Newark Airport Following Earthquake Departures at Newark International Airport are grounded following a 4.8 earthquake that hit New Jersey on Friday, April 5. The order was issued by the Federal Aviation Administration at 11:05 a.m. and runs until 12:30 p.m. for departing flights. AirTran service at the airport is also temporarily suspended, though shuttle buses are available at terminals and stations. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said the ground stop, which was also issued for John F. Kennedy International Airport, was in case of aftershocks. Arrivals are delayed 45 minutes according to the FAA.
