As an early note to all voters, Toni Boucher voted for the new Connecticut Gun Control Act which has made about 100,000 people instant felons, violates our own CT Constitution, and would not have prevented the Newtown tragedy as admitted by our Governor. Her support for this bill has already cost us five companies with 150 jobs, several million dollars in tax dollars and made us NO safer. Too bad she didn't have the personal backbone to vote against the bill. View Comment
Well all this is nice and truly supported by all the Obamabots, but it still flies in the face of the US Constitution.
Right now, the 'people' elect their US House members, and thanks to a Constitutional Amendment, elect their Senators (originally sent to Washington by the state legislatures to represent the best interest of the states - which no longer exists). This amounts to 'mob rule', based on the 'feelings' of the moment. We passed ObamaCare without Congressional due process or thorough thought, and look what we got!
Electing the President by popular vote is just one more step down the road that has produced results with unintended consequences.
One question: if we can elect the President through popular vote, can we also impeach the President this was also? Based on that right now, Obama would be GONE! Is that what people want? View Comment
Maybe the League of Women Voters of Connecticut, if they were really non-partisan, should look at the Gun Law on 2013 which was passed not only without the legally-mandated time for public review, but without being read in total by ANY of the legislators who passed it! Like ObamaCare and Pelosi, they had to pass it to find out what was in it!
We've already lost 5 companies, hundreds of jobs, millions of sales and income taxes (not to mention three companies who dropped CT from the states considered for new factories) and even the proponents said NOTHING in the law would have prevented the Newtown Shooting.
If the LWVCT want to have some real validity, let them confront this issue. View Comment
Why should these non-Fairfield County people be outraged over paying for the fees to cover us? We pay higher gasoline fees EVERY DAY, and for YEARS, to subsidize the gas fees for the rest of the state!!!! Turn-around is FAIR PLAY! It's called Distributor Pricing and the legislators won't kill it because most of their constituents would scream like these Cablevision subscribers are doing if they had to pay their FAIR SHARE of GAS TAXES! Sincere congratulations to Dr. Serels - world-class medicine in Norwalk that everyone will know. And since both my wife and I have been inpatients there, we know the high level of the supporting staff and nurses. View Comment
Another instance of the U. S. Constitution turned into a 'living document' instead of being allowed to stand on its own, as was the original intent. Malloy, Himes and Blumenthal should fly their flags upside down, having violated their oaths and surrended their political careers to the views of a few. View Comment
Don't advertise it, just do it and do it for a solid week and vary the locations. Then you'll see some impact.
Your present program must have been designed by a parent of some teen who was caught by a 'non-advertised' checkpoint. View Comment
Malloy runs back-door deals, violates the laws and rules to bypass public and committee hearings, jams the gun-control bill through in less than 16 hours without ANY LEGISLATOR reading the bill, has driven five (5) companies (to date) out of the state, jeopardized 2,300 jobs and depleted the state tax income (based on his own admin's estimate) of nearly $1.7 Billion! He immediately made 600,000 - 700,000 legal residents potential felons!
I will retire in 2016, and the moving trucks will be packed the day before - and I'm headed to where the U. S. Constitution is not attacked on a daily basis and is revered as it should be. View Comment
How many D.A.R.E. 'graduates' have been arrested for drug-related crimes/ Crimes of violence? Drug crimes? I'll bet no one has kept those stats because they'd be too embarrassing.
Why don't you let the Eddie Eagle program in - it has a great track record of working. View Comment
It's all about appearances, espcially with today's politicians.
Why not dedicate them to men and women from NORWALK who died in the service to this country, not victims of a shooting. It reminds me of "Click It For Cassie" - we immortalize a major mistake, not an heroic deed.
Now I have sympathy for the families in Newtown, but at least they got the support and sympathy of this state and the nation. But what about those whose child/husband/brother died overseas in some hellhole - they're pretty much forgotten by the pols - except when they can make a speech at a parade or other photo op. And elections are closing in on the pols! View Comment
It's about d*mn time that a felon found with an ILLEGAL gun had a tough sentence! This is the first case in YEARS where the police and courts weren't focused on taking away the rights of law-abiding citizens and hammered a law-breaker the way the law says they should!
Hopefully this is the first of many such actions by the courts. View Comment
Sounds good, but he should also apply for all the other programs that are available which wouldgive him a lot more, and then go buy cigarettes and booze with the cash while getting everything else on the stamps.
Maybe within 3 months he could afford the cell phones, Escalades, game boxes and big screen TVs that so many who are on assistance have. I know, I've seen them and know of two families where no one has had a job now for also two generations. On our dime!!!! View Comment
These laws would not have saved the Newtown children, and will not save one additional life in CT - it will actually cost lives with families who turn in guns or magazines in the false belief that they have to and will then be left defenseless.
But the Democrats think that's OK, 'cause the police will be there to clean up the mess and pick up the bodies. View Comment
First, when you say the "diocese", you should state the religion since more than Catholics use that term.
Second, I find the appeal nice, but right now the State is taking enough out of my paycheck (without asking me, just going to the pols who are generous with OPM [other people's money] to buy votes) to cover the needs of several people NOT in my household - thanks but I'll keep what little I have left to take care of the five of us. Remember, here in CT we have the latest Tax Freedom Day - May 18 - in the entire nation! View Comment
The Republicans have sold out their members, the constituents who elected them, and violated their oath of office to defend the Constitution of the State of Connecticut. I'm leaving the GOP and joining either the Independents or the Libertarians - they at least are honest about their positions.
Shame on you Larry Cafero, and Dick Mocchia for that point. View Comment
The Democrats in Congress were the ones who took $75 BILLION from the health, benefits and retirement funds of the carriers and used that money for other purposes, mainly vote-buying. Then they required ONLY the USPS to fund those same benefits, etc. at 80%, while EVERY OTHER US Gov't Agency only has to fund at the 20% level. Why? Because at that time, the USPS was the only agency making money!
They did to the USPS what they've done to Social Security and Medicare - Screw the people who built it so they could personally benefit by it.
This is why there NEEDS to be TERM LIMITS!!!! View Comment
