The watch was issued at 2:45 p.m. Saturday by the National Weather Service and will be in effect until 9 p.m. Saturday for Putnam, Dutchess and Rockland counties. The watch is not in effect for Westchester at this time.

Conditions are conducive for the development of severe thunderstorms with dangerous lightning, large hail and damaging winds, the National Weather Service warns. Some thunder is possible. If storms threaten your area, take shelter indoors.

Precipitation is expected to end early overnight as the cold front passes, making for a brisk day Sunday, with a high temperature only in the low 40s under sunny skies.
