Each year, Great Place to Work takes anonymous surveys of nearly 650,000 employees in the retail industry to determine which are the best employers. This is the third consecutive year that Wegmans took the top spot.

According to Great Place to Work, it “based its ranking on a data-driven methodology applied to anonymous Trust Index survey responses representing more than 631,000 employees at Great Place to Work-Certified organizations in the retail industry.”

Wegmans signed a purchase agreement in December 2016 with Normandy Real Estate Partners for a 125,000-square-foot grocery in Harrison, where site work has begun.

“Thank goodness for our employees. They make Wegmans a happy place to work and shop” Wegmans CEO Colleen Wegman said. “Their work is both meaningful and fun, and that’s an unbeatable combination.”

According to the Great Place to Work report, Wegmans has 47,916 employees with 127 locations on the East Coast.

“The Best Workplaces in Retail stand out for creating great workplaces for all employees, regardless of position or other personal characteristics. “People feel good shopping at retailers that treat employees well,” Michael Bush, CEO of Great Place to Work, stated. “The Best Workplaces in Retail are thriving in an evolving marketplace because they inspire and empower their employees to give their best and provide exceptional experiences for customers.”

In total, 1,218 Wegmans employees responded to the survey, garnering a 90 percent confidence level.

One employee said, “Wegmans is a place where those who seek to build a career for themselves while following their passions can do so. We are provided with the tools and mentorship we need to succeed and are surrounded by a tight-knit family of good people.”
