Grateful Dead Legend Gets Key To Port Chester

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- He might not be rockin' in front of millions of fans anymore, but that doesn't make a performance by one of the Grateful Dead's founding members, Phil Lesh, any less exciting.

The village of Port Chester residents and fans were treated to a show by Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band for Halloween at the Capitol Theatre.

During the performance, Port Chester Deputy Mayor and Trustee Luis Marino presented Lesh with a ceremonial key to the Village of Port Chester.

Lesh has had a strong connection to Port Chester from the moment he set foot on The Capitol Theatre stage in 1970, and the Grateful Dead's run of shows at The Cap in February of '71 remains iconic and indelible for many fans.

Since then, Lesh has performed at the theater frequently with Phil Lesh & Friends, taking the stage an incredible 70 times since it reopened in 2012, making the village and the theater his second home.
