Skull Patrol, sponsored by Larchmont Recreation Department and the Larchmont Chamber 10538 is designed to encourage school-aged children to wear bike helmets properly. It also provides opportunities for positive interaction between police and kids.

Police officers reward youngsters who are wearing their helmets properly by giving them "tickets" for donated items. For example, a slice of pizza, an ice cream, a cookie, French fries, muffins, candy etc. (The new bike lanes are an added bonus.)

Since starting May 1, more than 250 tickets have been given out from community shops such as Villa Maria, Sweeets, East Avenue Cafe, Sunshine Coffee Roasters, Le Sirene, Stephanie's Kloset, and Auray Gourmet Other businesses, such as Foley's, Larchmont Meateria, Manor Deli donated kid-friendly gifts or munchies.

Other businesses that have gotten involved include Choice Copy, D'Agostino Clothiers, Futtermans, Kurt Sauer Opticians, Mancino Tailors, Larchmont Music Academy, Pink on Palmer, and Post Wine & Spirits, The Smith Family and The Flower Bar donated money to offset costs while the Larchmont Police Benevolent Association donated bike helmets to raffle.

Coldwell Banker of Larchmont and Miller's Toy Store have given $400 for a drawing at the end of the program to raffle several bikes for the participants. All tickets must be redeemed by September 15 to be eligible.
